CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE

“The Story of Jesus”

PRELUDE

WELCOME

SCRIPTURE:                             John 1:9-14

Leader:  The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.

People:  11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—

Leader:  13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

People: 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Carol #143                  Infant Holy, Infant Lowly

SCRIPTURE:                 Luke 2:3-7

And everyone went to their own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

Carol #127                  Thou Didst Leave Thy Throne                                                Vs.1, 2, 4

SCRIPTURE:     Luke 2:8-15

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

Carol #131                  Angels from the Realms of Glory                              Vs.1,2

Carol #133                  Hark the Herald Angels Sing                                      Vs.1,2,3

SCRIPTURE:     John 1:15-18

15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and[b] is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

SPECIAL:                     Happy Birthday, Jesus!                                               Kaylynn

MEDITATION              WHAT IS UNIQUE ABOUT JESUS?                                         John 1

-He offers you the truth you need for living. 9

-Even though He is rejected by so many He is still seeking you.  10-11

-He alone has the ability to make you a Child of God.  12

-He remains among us with the grace we need to live one day at a time. 14

SILENT NIGHT

Silent night holy night All is calm all is bright

‘Round yon virgin mother and child

Holy infant so tender and mild

Sleep in heavenly peace Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night holy night Shepherds quake at the sight

Glories stream from heaven afar

Heav’nly hosts sing alleluia

Christ the Savior is born Christ the Savior is born

Silent night holy night Son of God love’s pure light

Radiant beams from Thy holy face

With the dawn of redeeming grace

Jesus Lord at Thy birth Jesus Lord at Thy birth.
